	Abstract:	Abner Royce served in Company H, 55th Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry, and was stationed at Camp Chase, Ohio, and at camps in Virginia during the Civil War. His parents resided in Bloomville, Ohio. William D. Royce was an inspector for the Cleveland Division of the American Protective League, which in 1919 became the Loyal American League. The collection consists of descriptive rolls and letters from Abner Royce to his parents, Mr. and Mrs. B.F. Royce; sketchbook of Henrietta L. Royce; papers of the Cleveland Division of the American Protective League, including a plan of organization, inspector reports, form letters and other correspondence, and handbills; miscellaneous letters, stock certificates, and other family papers.

	Abstract:	Reverend and Mrs. E.G. Wood of Chesterville, Ohio, were the parents of Julius V. Wood, who served with Company C of the 96th Ohio Volunteer Infantry Regiment, and Lucius V. Wood, who served with Company E of the 121st Ohio Volunteer Infantry Regiment during the American Civil War. The collection consists primarily of letters addressed to Rev. and Mrs. E.G. Wood from their two sons, Julius and Lucius; Lucius Wood's diary (August 8-October 31, 1862); and a partial diary and scrapbook, undated.

3	Title:	George W. Landrum Letters

	Abstract:	George W. Landrum (1830-1863) was a Kentucky native who moved to Cincinnati, Ohio. During the American Civil War he served first in the 6th Ohio Infantry Regiment (the "Guthrie Gray" Regiment) and later as a 1st Lieutenant in the Signal Corps of the 2nd Ohio Infantry Regiment. He died at Chickamauga in September 1863. The collection consists primarily of typewritten transcripts of letters sent to Landrum's sister, Amanda Wilson (Mrs. Obed J. Wilson), containing descriptions of camp life and various military encounters in which Landrum took part during the Civil War, such as Chaplin Hills (Perryville, Kentucky.) and Stone River (Murfreesboro, Tennessee).

	Abstract:	Marion D. Ward was a sergeant in Company D, 102nd Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry, during the American Civil War. Ward apparently saw little battle action with his regiment while stationed in Kentucky, Tennessee, and Alabama. the collection consists of letters written by Ward to friends, including Miss Artie M. Dickson of Olivesburgh, Richland County, Ohio, during the Civil War, describing his general duties, drills, marches, lack of food, and other aspects of camp life, as well as his own feelings about the war and its causes and the competence of the military leadership.

	Abstract:	Correl Smith was a Captain in Company G, 19th Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry, during the American Civil War. Commissioned as a First Lieutenant on September 15, 1861, Smith assisted in organizing the 19th OVI during its muster at Alliance, Stark County, Ohio. Smith was promoted to Captain on January 2, 1863, and discharged from service on October 4, 1864. The collection consists of a diary kept by Captain Smith during the Civil War.

	Abstract:	George P. Metcalf (born 1844) was a Liverpool, Ohio, native who served in Company D, 136th Regiment, New York Volunteer Infantry during the American Civil War. During 1869 he practiced law in Mississippi, where he had a strong interest in the attitudes and actions of residents of this state toward Reconstruction.. The collection consists of reminiscences of Metcalf's childhood on a Medina County, Ohio, farm, his student days in Oberlin, and primarily his service during the Civil War, and his experiences as a lawyer in Mississippi during Reconstruction.

	Abstract:	Paul Bough Travis (1891-1975) was an artist and art educator who taught at the Cleveland School of Art (later the Cleveland Art Institute). His wife, Marjorie Penfield Travis, collected materials on her family history. The collection consists of correspondence, diaries, mementos, unpublished short stories and poetry, and other materials relating to the World War I experiences and artistic career of Paul Travis, and to the genealogy of Marjorie Penfield Travis. 	Abstract:	Jeremiah Browning Mansfield, the son of Samuel and Elizabeth Mansfield, was born in 1841 in Ohio, and raised on his father's farm in Wayne Township, Jefferson County, Ohio. He and his older brother Oliver served in the 52nd Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry during the American Civil War. Jeremiah Mansfield participated in the Battles of Chickamauga and the Battle of Perrysville, and then served at Camp Sheridan in Nashville, Tennessee until the end of the war. He and Elizabeth Taggart Mansfield were married in Harrison County, Ohio in 1869. She was born in 1845 in Harrison County, Ohio, and received a teaching certificate in 1863. Her brother, Milton, attended Oberlin College and Michigan Law School. By 1880, Jeremiah and Elizabeth Mansfield had settled in Wells Township, Jefferson County, Ohio, where they farmed and raised five children. The collection consists of correspondence, essays, and miscellany relating to the Mansfield and Taggart families; Jefferson and Harrison counties, Ohio; the Civil War; and Oberlin College and Michigan Law School. The papers include letters written over a twenty-year period to James Carrick, an early settler of Harrison County, Ohio and ancestor of the Mansfield/Taggart family.

	Abstract:	The Richards family settled in Hinckley Township, Medina County, Ohio, prior to 1838. Willard Richards married Alvira Ann Whedon in 1838, and they raised seven children. In 1861, their eldest son, Myron, enlisted in Battery A, First Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Light Artillery. He returned to farming in Hinckley Township in 1865, and the following year, married Romelia Noragon. They raised two children, Oliver Richards and Margie Richards. In 1891, the Richards family moved to Lincoln, Nebraska. In the 1910s, Margie Richards became a physical education instructor at the University of California, Southern Branch (University of California, Los Angeles). The collection consists of correspondence, certificates, journals, genealogical notes, wills, military papers, and legal documents.

His sons, Reuben, Henry, and Peter Jr., entered the judiciary, ministry and politics respectively and were affiliated with Burton Academy, Western Reserve College and the Atlantic and Great Western Railway Company. the collection consists of correspondence of family members and miscellaneous papers relating to Western Reserve College, Burton Academy, the Atlantic and Great Western Railway and the early history of Burton, Ohio.
